The Commercial Shipping Program

Danish Shipping Academy offers the international shipping education 'The Commercial Shipping Program' to give our members' shipping trainees the best possible competences.

The trainees will during the two-year programme get a wide understanding of the shipping industry and the economic and legal aspects of the business. The participants will learn to plan and apply negotiation techniques and use communication in various situations.

The trainees will be well prepared to act in the maritime industry when they have completed the programme.

Trainees in member companies and companies within the shipping industry.

Employees who have completed the BSc in International Shipping and Trade at CBS may participate in part of the program. Please find further information HERE.


Course description

The trainees will acquire the necessary comprehension of ship technology and maritime regulations to interact effectively with the ships they operate.

About the Commercial Shipping Program

The Commercial Shipping Program is a private non-governmental approved education and, therefore, the participants do not earn ECTS points.

The Commercial Shipping Program is not a vocational education, so your shipping trainees are not included in the calculation of your company's Praktikplads-AUB.


Language of instruction
All courses are taught in English.



The Commercial Shipping Program is a two-year programme which includes three residential courses in Denmark. Between the three courses the tuition is carried out as webinars.


Location of the courses in Denmark

The courses will take place at Hotel Hornbækhus, Skovvej 7, DK-3100 Hornbæk,



The participants will receive diplomas for their completion of the Commercial Shipping Program and STCW certified course certificates for passed course in “Transport of dangerous goods”.

Course fee

The course fee is DKK 75,000 + VAT per trainee for members and DKK 95,000 + VAT for non-members.


The course fee covers tuition, teaching materials, books, enterprise visits and accommodation and meals at Hotel Hornbækhus. Accommodation on the night before the graduation and transport to Copenhagen is also included for trainees not living near Copenhagen. As Module 1 starts in Copenhagen, transport to Hotel Hornbækhus on the first day and back to Copenhagen on the last day is also included. The fee does not cover accommodation on the nights before the courses start.


Cancellation over three days before the first course: 100 p.c. refund. Cancellation after start on the first course: We refund the amount that we will get repaid for accommodation and meals.
