Danish Shipping has just launched a new academy for employees in Danish shipping companies together with the tech consultancy DareDisrupt. The academy, which assembles in the beginning of 2018, aims to keep the Danish shipping industry at the forefront of the digital development and the latest technological trends.

The first participants have signed up for the Maritime Disruptors Academy, which will be held over four intensive days in January and February. The Academy is a new educational program that is developed specifically for the shipping companies in Denmark. The purpose of the Academy is to provide the shipping industry with a better understanding of how they best navigate in a constantly changing world and how they work strategically with new technologies and new digital options.

"There are major changes underway, not least in the shipping sector, where digitization and new technology are among the topics that are frequently talked about when our members meet. The purpose of the Maritime Disruptors Academy is to help our members get a better understanding the latest trends and how to respond strategically," says Anne H. Steffensen, CEO at Danish Shipping.

The academy is for employees in Danish shipping companies, who either hold a leadership role or work with strategy and business development. In addition, students from the maritime programs at the Copenhagen Business School and Denmark’s Technical University participate on an equal footing with the more experienced participants.

"We will invite a select group of talented students to the four-day academy. This is done to challenge views and offer new perspectives, which you may overlook in an established company. In addition, we want to attract young talents to shipping and engage them in the future of the sector even before they graduate," says Anne H. Steffensen.

The program for the academy has been developed by the consultancy DareDisrupt, and is moderated by Märtha Rehnberg, who has previously worked with 3D printing and innovation in Maersk. She emphasizes that the shipping sector is on the verge of a digital revolution.

"All sectors will be affected by disruption. This applies especially to the shipping industry, which has a scale that makes it fit for a digital transformation as even small changes can have a significant impact. There is a strong interest in the shipping community of the latest tech developments and a willingness to look critically at your own business model, which is inspiring," says Märtha Rehnberg, partner and co-founder of DareDisrupt.
